Assignment was to create a triptych painting. Yep, those were the guidelines. That's it. I had taken a trip to Sri Lanka earlier that year and I met these 3 siblings, relatives of mine. They have 3 very different personalities, which is evident in their 3 chosen poses. They didn't know I was going to turn this into a painting, but boy were they happy when they saw it. Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 36"

June 23rd marks the anniversary of the bombing of Air India Flight 182, en route from Canada to India. All 329 people on board were killed, most of whom were Canadian citizens of Indian origin. It is the largest mass murder in Canadian history. Before 9/11, it was the deadliest terrorist attack involving a plane. Among the victims were my cousins, Shyamala and Krithika Laurence. Both were accomplished bharatanatyam dancers and were on their way to India to further their dance training.
